Global economic growth will slow to just above 3% by 2029, this is according to a 5 year projection in the International Monetary Fund’s latest World Economic Outlook. This will be over the same period of time that South Africa’s economy needs to speed up. We will be swimming upstream for sure.

Cyberattacks

In April Starlink warned South African users that their service will be ‘cut’. Icasa blocked the license of Elon Musks Company because it was not BEE compliant.

This decision could and should be challenged in the Competition Commission because the service would be of great benefit to South Africans.

(Starlink will legally be available in South Africa one day. I believe it might be as soon as 12 months after the National Elections.Once it is, South African Internet Services Providers will be in the same position DSTV was when streaming TV started.)

Another South African State entity in South Africa was hacked. This time it was Itac which suffered a breach in April 2024.

Cancer has affected members of my family, friendship group and even some of my colleagues. The disease is found ‘too late’ which leaves us with few options. A goal must be to identify cancer at its very ‘conception’.

Have you heard of liquid biopsy? This allows us to identify cancer before it starts to grow. An example of a company that offers this analyses is: https://www.personalgenome.com/about-us

(Unfortunately the technology costs a fortune.)

What kills 8.34 million people per year around the World and 4881 in the Highveld in South Africa alone?

In comparison 7 million people have died to date from Covid.

Would less people have died from Covid, and would there have been less economic devastation, if we did not need to wait for pharmaceutical companies to develop, sell and rollout a vaccine, in comparison to the scenario were we just let herd immunity develop?

Earthshot Prize

Good news. 4 decades ago in Kenya, black rhinos were about to go extinct. Their numbers had dropped from 20000 in the 1970s to less than 300 by the mid-1980s. According to the last count taken around December 2023, there are now an estimated 1000. There is still a long way to go, but we must acknowledge incremental positive change.

From video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ik7Is6BLws :

If Europe passes anti-hunting legislation, it will have devastating consequences for tourism and livelihoods in Southern Africa.”.

This was my response to Amy (from the video):

“In 2024 there are better ways to generate income with Tourism. Trophy Hunting is madness. I do not support hunting for pleasure or to generate income for private business.

I will not accept ‘the community benefits’ nonsense. The reserves and businesses are not owned by the community, they are owned by a handful of business owners. Giving ‘them’ a clinic and a steak here and there is not good will or anything to brag about. There are far more problematic people than animals.

South Africa is running out of a number of things it needs. The red flag that is starting to garner attention now is Gas, which some people believe might run out within 2 years.

Nothing is more important to me than Education and to learn that South Africa is getting two new universities makes me all warm inside. You can read more here:

(I wish education was more affordable. Did you ever read my article about Londeka the Inspiring? Here it is: https://www.jeanpierremurraykline.co.za/londeka-the-inspiring/ )

Some days, my research is really hard to consume. Have you heard of FGM? It stands for Female Genital Mutilation and it something I wish was not still around in 2024, but it is. Culture and Religion are not acceptable excuses. More here:
