Cyberattacks

Have you found as soon as a family member or friend arrive at your home they ask you for your Wi-Fi password? This has become the norm, but what about those who don’t ask at all? I am talking about those scoundrels who hack your router for free Wi-Fi! Here is an article to help reduce that risk:

Ever wonder what your generation’s legacy will be? I ponder this often. I hope we are the generation that prioritizes education. With knowledge, we make better decisions for our families and business.

However for those of you who have nothing at all in mind, here is something about 2024 you probably didn’t know: for the first time in history we have recorded a mushroom growing out of a living animal. Why and how? I don’t know, but there you have it. You can find out more here:

Finance and Health (the sectors) are ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ to one another. I always counsel people about going into business with family. Did you know what WHO (World Health Organization) has a Digital Finance Team? They do. So far they have implemented digital payment solutions in 24 countries in Africa.

Why is Africa not managing its own ‘business’?

This article will give an update. (I warn you the tone is that ‘it’s all better for Africa’ because of ‘them’, and I am not 100% certain it is.) https://www.techafricanews.com/2024/02/14/whos-digital-payments-initiative-boosts-health-campaigns-across-africa/

I know things are done ‘differently in Africa’, but if you think we cannot spearhead change, you are mistaken. I want to share another example which I found this month demonstrating leading innovation on this continent:

This month, over a hundred Romanian healthcare facilities were affected by a ransomware attack. Healthcare is one of the most targeted sectors by hackers. Have you ever wondered how secure our hospital and clinic data is in South Africa?

Two dates were announced this month and both excited me a lot!

  • 31st of March E-tolls will finally be turned off. (The financial damage to citizens because of E-tolls has been astronomical. Our children will be paying this debt off and it’s not acceptable and I feel that those who implemented it should be held accountable. If a criminal case could somehow be made, I would support it.)
  • 29th of May the 2024 National and Provincial Elections take place! May there be change! (64 countries will have elected new leaders in 2024.)

Did you know South Africa has an island with a volcano? Well we do! It is called Mascarin Peak and can be found on Marion Island. It has a height of 1 230 metres.

Check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mascarin_Peak

PS, we have 9 our islands!

Prince William’s ‘Earthshot’ Prize is heading to South Africa.

The video I want to share below I found amusing because apparently the person offering this nugget believes South Africa is a fine city and not a country.

The Prize is a global environmental award that is rewarded to five winners each year for their contributions towards environmentalism

Earthshot Prize

Did you know the most expensive website domain ever sold was www.Cars.com for $872 million! Of course if you need a co.za you can get ONE FOR FREE at www.websitehosting.co.za using their annual hosting package.

PS, this is one of my businesses, and you won’t get better client care!

This month the department of forestry, fisheries and the environment reported that our country has lost 50% of our wetlands and 48% are endangered.  I think if my math is correct, it means we only have 2% that is okay?

Wetlands are lost as a direct result of our action, mainly to accommodate buildings or to plant crops.

South Africa is ranked as the 30th ‘driest’ country in the world.

In December 2023 the Department of Water and Sanitation released the Blue Drop report which shares information on the state of our water. Around 46% of drinking water is microbiologically unsafe and 47% of tap water is considered non-revenue making due to faulty infrastructure, illegal connections and incorrect billing/accounts.

To ‘resolve’ the ‘problem’, and it is an epic problem, it is estimated that we need R90 billion per year over the next 10 years. Johannesburg will probably run out of water within the next 6 years. Here is an article sharing my opinion: https://www.enca.com/news-videos/watch-sa-may-run-out-drinking-water-2030-or-sooner

I want to share one of many examples of environmental damage caused by political shenanigans in South Africa. Yes, politics hurt the environment as well!

Do we pay too little for Water in South Africa?

The fact is … we really do!

In the coming years, even the most basic of resources are going to increase in cost.

Here are two interesting links. One covers things happening in Nigeria and another that offers a global overview of the cost of water. South Africa currently enjoys some of the less costly water charges, but this will change in the coming years a lot!

We need to look at the way we work and live in a bigger picture.

PS, what blows my mind is the cost of water in Egypt.

Tesla will need to pay a fee of $1.5 million to settle a civil lawsuit about their company mishandling hazardous waste materials. I am disappointed. You can read more here:
