Um, yes please!
For those of you who follow the news, you will have learned that a certain ex-President of South Africa has to pay back the money… again, and this time, legal fees.
I don’t want to write about that, but rather share some ideas on how several technology platforms are available for people who urgently need to raise funds!
(You know how I like it when tech is used for good! Let me share some ideas!)
- GoFundMe, widely used for personal emergencies, medical expenses, and urgent needs.
- Kickstarter, which focuses on creative projects and innovations, suitable for entrepreneurs or inventors needing immediate funding.
- Indiegogo, similar to Kickstarter but with more flexibility, including options for urgent funding and campaigns for charitable causes.
- YouCaring (now integrated with GoFundMe), and I think have an awesome name, specializes in personal and medical fundraising with a focus on urgent needs.
- And finally (although there are lots more), Razoo, which offers crowdfunding for personal emergencies, non-profits, and charitable causes with quick setup. Perhaps this might be the one to help our former president?
WHAT WAS THAT?
We get so distracted with insignificant things that have little or no bearing on our future. I see this every day with South Africans.
For example, in the news this past month, there was massive buzz about three tiny political parties merging. This is not significant at all in the bigger picture. Yet – it gets so much attention when there are far more important things underway. There really are so many monumental things happening around the world that just don’t get enough talk time — which is one of the reasons I actually post about my research and projects.

My comments:
China is already living the future: retail, education, ground forces, looking after seniors, medical advances, police force, domestic cleaners, androids that look like you, imitation learning.
What is South Africa doing in these spaces? How do we compete…? We must challenge ourselves and focus.
AFRICA IN SPACE!
Angola has officially established its national space agency! This was announced by their President, João Lourenço. This is a significant milestone for Africa. YAY! Their agency will oversee mission execution, private licensing, object registration, and coordination of civilian and military projects — signalling Angola’s transition from technical operations to institutional independence. This step secures Angola with other African countries a seat at the space table. The next major industry event, the 2026 NewSpace Africa Conference in Gabon, will focus on inclusive growth and expanding space benefits across Africa — and I intend to be there! Will you be there? While I cannot (and do not) subscribe to or endorse all that is shared in this video, I am going to leave a few bullet points on what I agree with or wish to comment on and elaborate.

My notes…
- Will the human race become extinct? I don’t believe so.
- Is bigger better? I suspect an underdog’s potential here is just as great.
- Will this presenter run out of little blocks? Yes.
- Are we in the dark? For sure — we have no idea what is happening behind these corporate doors.
- Agents. 1, 2, 3, 4… Smith? Bloody agents.
- What jobs will AI take? Just about all done by humans who use computers — this I do agree with.
- AI scratch pads? Would love to see some of these.
- When does AI become an adversary? Keep greeting your AI and thanking it for its help.
- You are on this committee — each and every one of us.
- AI will compete with other AIs. This I agree with.
- Could AI bring about a universal income? I believe so.
- The ‘when’ is a good question. I agree it will be sooner rather than later.
- Yes, you need to call your family too.
Side thoughts and comments:
- Will AI become sentient, and will we give it rights?
- AI will be about jobs and war.
- Where does Africa fit in?
AFRICA HAS A MOMMY!
Did you know we have a mummy in South Africa? The Kouga Mummy!
Near Langkloof (Eastern Cape) is home to the Kouga Mummy, the only mummy ever found in Southern Africa. She is about 2,000 years old!
I learnt this nugget while preparing a keynote talk for the Langkloof Bloeiselfees/ Boeredag 2025.
