WHO IS JEAN-PIERRE MURRAY-KLINE AND WHY DOES HIS OPINION MATTER? (NOVEMBER 2022)

Who is Jean-Pierre Murray-Kline anyway, and why should his opinion matter?
The end of the year, finally. I have written several articles and published a book in 2022. Ive discussed things like ‘failed states’, trends, global warming, cybercrimes and even Police Minister Bheki Cele.
For my last article of the year I thought I would write about something really personal and a subject I am intimate with. ME! … before you run away, lets be honest, you hardly know me, and perhaps the idea of an article about me suggests I have some narcissistic tendencies, but there is actually a really good reason for it! I have for a few years now shared opinions on all sorts of business matters and social issues, but everyone has opinions, so why should mine have relevance to you?
The only way to offer weight to my opinions is to share context on who I am and what I have achieved. If you can indulge me for 5 minutes, get to know me, and let me share some information on services I provide to communities and businesses, you and I might end up doing some great stuff together in the future.

I was born the same year the internet started, 1983. I come from a ‘poor’ background. I know ‘poor’ in South Africa is a controversial word, but in respect to me, it means my household didn’t have much money, and I remember my mom selling sweets from the school parking lot to help cover bills. She was my first exposure to entrepreneurship.
My family was divided through divorce. I am the oldest of 8 or 9 children that we know of (dad’s side.). My house was in a suburb called Southfield in Cape Town, and my home burnt down in my teens. Inspite of this all, I can’t recall ever wanting for anything and my mother and Aunt played a tremendous part in raising me. I did start working really young, with my first job at a church as an Altar Server, and the first payment I ever received in my life was R5 for working at a funeral.
As a youngster I did something extremely unique. The best way to explain it is an extract from a published article, here it is:
“As I moved from the rear seat of the Mini bus Taxi I could feel eyes on the back of my neck. I must have looked out of place. Bowtie, waistcoat and very shiny shoes. My brief case, the traditional sidekick of a magician, was knocking the door as I squeezed out of the overloaded vehicle. Stretching my legs I was able to reach the pavement and was greeted with a refreshing breeze.

Stretching my legs I was able to reach the pavement and was greeted with a refreshing breeze.
In my teens, I made an income working at children’s birthday parties as an entertainer. The only way I could get to work was by taxi or bus. You see, my mom never had a car and my step dad had a 1986 Ford Sierra which was unreliable at best. (I will never forget that car breaking down outside my Matric dance, forcing me to push start while everyone watched).
I had to make my own way. I am proud to be one of the first people to buy a car in my family, with exception to my uncle from Johannesburg. I paid for my own car, with Magic.” If you have not worked it out yet, I started my career at a very young age being a magician. I managed to win several national awards as well! Something I don’t share too often, but is obvious when you meet me is that I have an eye condition called Duane’s Eye Syndrome. This gave me self-confidence issues while growing up, but not as much as the wart I had on my nose for 2 years in junior school. It was in a spot that made it look like I had a booger dangling there! My mom eventually got it removed by a doctor but I can assure you it was something that didn’t help with the bullies.
High school was much better for me, and not because I was a great student. At school, and during lunch breaks, I ran a pocket money company from the library. In addition to this, and thanks to my nack with computers, I was asked to teach computer lessons to students and parents. I became a teacher of sorts, a tradesmen, and an entertainer really young in life.
After matriculating I started my own actual business with my first big client being SAB in Newlands. By the age of nineteen I had managed to invoice my first million Rand. I also launched a NPO working with street children.
I am sure you too have interesting stories of when you grew up, but the main reason I hope people listen to what I have to say is because of the work experience I have gained. I refer to myself as a Serial Entrepreneur and I am very proud to be a published Author.
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity over two decades to work in over 300 types of industries, directly or indirectly, and in varied capacities. I have managed to build my very own online business, with several web divisions. I have, with my own business managed to generate millions of Rands, and lucky enough to have travelled to many cities around the World.
As I write this article at a cute coffee shop my company still operates, and that is thanks to my impeccable colleagues who have helped us get through the pandemic and continuing economic and social turbulence in South Africa today. You will know this is something many businesses have not been able to do. Infact, I recently did a tally for one of my online businesses clients, and after checking the numbers found that 45 of them, all SMMEs, had shut their doors in 2022.
Other than managing my own company, I have a side hustle with three parts. The first one I call ‘Future Thinking’, and I do this while wearing my ‘Business and Environmental Technologist’ hat. It involves endless hours of studies and researching 16+ subjects throughout the year. From this I write articles, share information and propose new and better ideas for society and business to improve efficiency and sustainability.
For companies specifically I provide a Digital Architect & Scenario Planning service: assessments, reporting and recommendations. Carbon footprint and environmental impact is just one of the areas I focus on, but there are 5 others you can read about on my website.

For communities, NPOs, schools, and parents, I focus on education and inspiring Change Champions. Living today has some very unique challenges and risks. Having at least one person in every classroom, or NGO or community group identifying the most pressing needs and inspiring those around them to investigate and champion change is vital. We must do whatever we can to improve our chances of building a cohesive, moral and sustainable society. I discuss the Future Entrepreneur and the importance of self-empowerment and resilience to change, amongst other things.
The second hat I wear covers ‘All Things Online’, not limited to Marketing, Reputation, Compliance, Law and Security. I have managed to dominate the Internet for several of my own businesses using self-developed strategies. These skills I ‘lend’ to clients to either improve their position on search engines, or improve their online reputation, or mitigate online risks and deal with e-laws and e-regulations. You can find a full break down on my website for the services I offer related to: Marketing, Online Reputation, E-Compliance, E-Attacks, E-Crimes and E-Security, Website and App Development and Innovation in business.
Finally, the last service I offer is as a Guest Speaker. I can talk on an extensive range of topics at events. I tweak every Keynote Talk for every event, but the two base themes are: ‘The Now and The Future’: which is an overview of trends and influences affecting business and society with a focus on Technology, Social, economic and political factors, Environmental matters, Global trends, and Risks & Opportunities.
My second talk is called ‘All things E’ and it covers innovations and technologies available (industry specific) as well as what is most likely to become mainstream in the future, followed by some risk and opportunity scenarios and a ‘picture’ of the future work space.
My talks are normally around 45 minutes in duration and I then spend a little more time with a Q&A session. I can include any variety of the following topics in my talks:
- Digital Trends, Global Influences.
- Technological, social, economic, political and environmental green and red flags.
- Global Warming and Climate Change.
- Pandemics & Natural Disasters. Man-made Disasters.
- Human Practices and Habits.
- Automation. Robotics.
- Space Travel Innovation.

- Ethical and Future Customers and Businesses.
- All Green Solutions. Renewables. Sustainable Solutions.
- Environmental Issues.
- E-behaviour. E-health.
- Social Media. Online Reputation. Marketing in the Future.
- E-safety. E-law. E-ethics. E-Behaviour.
- E-Crimes and e-attacks. E-risks. Cyberbullying.
- The status and future of Data. Cloud.
- Digital Tools. Industry 4.0, IoT.
- Blockchain. E-Money. E-Retail.
- Smart Cities, towns, buildings, homes and businesses.
- Subscription & Circular Economy.
- Carbon footprint and carbon budgets.
- The Metaverse. E-Sports. VR, AR & MR.
- E-scenarios for business, communities and the environment.
- The ‘Future Thinker’ and Change Champion.
- Future Proofing.
- E-freedom and online censorship.
- The e-Entrepreneur.
In short, I am a good person to know if you want to work towards a better business, planet and society.
All there is to do, is wish you a wonderful and safe festive season. I hope to see you in the Future Thinker!
