E-Health & Healthy Digital Habits
WHAT DO I COVER IN A KEYNOTE TALK ABOUT E-HEALTH AND HEALTHY DIGITAL HABITS?
Humans are creatures of habit, and we are forming some awful new habits and behaviors when it comes to things online or digital devices. My keynote talk on E-Health and healthy digital habits covers several topics with the hope that we take better care of ourselves and others online.
I start with an introduction to E-Health and offer a definition and scope. I talk about the importance of technology in healthcare. I then follow through with some current trends in E-Health, like telemedicine and virtual care. I also discuss mobile health applications and wearables and offer a few insights into data analytics in the context of health informatics.
I then do a deeper dive into the benefits of E-Health, such as how it has helped improve access to healthcare services and, at the same time, enhanced patient engagement and empowerment. E-Health is the most efficient healthcare delivery option and has reduced costs all around, but in South Africa, there are some risks and concerns, and I share these too.
I then move onto the main part of my talk, which covers digital literacy and tools. In this section, I cover healthy digital habits, setting boundaries on screen time, how to recognize signs of digital fatigue or burnout, and the importance of maintaining a work-life balance in a digital world. I talk about privacy and security, understanding data privacy in E-Health, and briefly discuss some best practices for safeguarding personal health information. Each person needs to be brought up to speed on digital literacy, educating and evaluating digital health resources, and encouraging critical thinking in digital health engagement.
I end with a peek into the future of E-Health, covering innovations on the horizon (AI, machine learning, etc.) and the role of policy and regulation in shaping E-Health.
The combination of elements I cover in my keynote is meant to bring people up to speed on the status we find ourselves in, and I present in such a way as to inspire the audience to embrace E-Health while promoting responsible and healthy interactions with digital health technologies.
