E-Safety, E-crimes, E-attacks & Cyber Bullying

WHAT DO I COVER IN A KEYNOTE TALK ABOUT E-SAFETY, E-CRIMES, AND E-ATTACKS, AND CYBERBULLYING?

This is probably one of the most requested subjects by educational institutions and businesses. My keynote talk on E-Safety, E-Crimes, E-Attacks, and Cyberbullying could encompass a range of important topics, designed and presented in a way to bring people up to speed with these subjects and encourage action. While each talk is customized, I normally include some of the following topics:

Introduction to E-Safety. I offer a definition of E-Safety and its importance in today’s digital landscape. I then share an overview of the increasing reliance on digital devices and the internet and the risks this poses.

Next, I explain how best to understand the concept and act of an E-Crime. I cover what constitutes E-Crimes, including hacking, identity theft, and online fraud. I also share some statistics on the prevalence and impact of E-Crimes on individuals and organizations and try to tailor this to the audience I am presenting to.

I might then offer an overview of the types of E-Attacks, common methods used in E-Attacks, such as phishing, malware, and ransomware, and I might share some real-life examples of notable E-Attacks and their consequences.

A subject we should cover is the impact of cyberbullying. I provide a quick definition and then an explanation of the forms of cyberbullying (e.g., harassment, impersonation, exclusion). I normally offer a discussion of the emotional, psychological, and social effects on victims, especially in the workplace.

While the time provided for a keynote does not allow me to offer a lot of information, I do include some prevention strategies: tips for individuals to protect themselves online, such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and being cautious with personal information. I also try to cover best practices for parents and educators to help children navigate online safely.

I may include some legal frameworks but, more importantly, the consequences of failure to comply or act. I might present a few points or an overview of laws and regulations regarding cybercrimes and cyberbullying, but my primary objective here is to share the importance of reporting incidents and understanding the legal repercussions for perpetrators and also for those who have a business and do not take reasonable steps to mitigate threats.

I normally include a section about digital citizenship, encouraging responsible and respectful online behavior. We need to foster a culture of support and empathy to combat cyberbullying.

I normally offer a few nuggets on resources and support, including organizations and tools available for victims of E-Crimes and cyberbullying.

I end the talk with the best and most interesting part: future trends and challenges, discussing some emerging technologies and their implications for E-Safety and cyber threats. I also enjoy painting ‘a picture’ of the evolving landscape of cyberbullying and what it might become in the next decade or so.
